Requirements / Qualifications Flexible work hours for high school students! After school sports and coaching opportunities:
A pathway to teaching! Under the direction of the Extended School Services (ESS) Site Lead, participates in a variety of duties in the operation of the Extended School Services Program at an assigned school site; observes and manages behavior of students enrolled in ESS during recreational activities; monitors the play area during periods when students are present; and organizes and directs age-appropriate activities for school age students.
The ideal candidate has some childcare experience, either through a paid position or volunteer experiences.
The candidate has the knowledge, interest, and ability to create a safe and engaging environment that provides children with age-appropriate and meaningful learning.
The ideal candidate exhibits integrity, professionalism, caring, and competency as a positive role model.
He or she has a commitment to building positive relationships with a culturally, linguistically, and socio-economically diverse community of students, staff, and parents.
Examples of Duties:
o Assists students to organize and find appropriate play activities within a positive and encouraging environment.
o Encourages students to observe fundamental courtesies at school (e.
g.
, good eating habits, leaving areas neat and clean) for the purpose of improving the quality of students' outcome and encouraging student development.
o Implements school and ESS discipline policy and follows up with appropriate personnel (e.
g.
, Site Lead, Supervisor) for the purpose of conveying and/or receiving information required to perform job functions.
o Monitors individual and/or groups of students in a variety of settings (e.
g.
, group or individual games, playground activities, indoor activities, hallways, other locations determined by the Site Lead) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive environment.
o Organizes quiet or active, age appropriate indoor and/or outdoor activities for the purpose of encouraging students to participate in wholesome recreational play activities.
o Oversees students moving about the campus for the purpose of ensuring the safety of children and meeting the District's requirements.
o Responds to inquiries for the purpose of resolving issues, providing information and/or direction to others.
o Transfers children directly from/to parents or designee for the purpose of ensuring safety of children and meeting the District requirements.
Other Functions o Distributes crafts and/or play materials for the purpose of providing required supplies.
o Serves nutritious snacks for the purpose of ensuring students receive proper nutritional items to meet federal and state guidelines.
o Maintains program equipment and work areas (e.
g.
, toys, games) for the purpose of ensuring availability of items and/or providing a safe learning and recreational environment.
o Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Comments and Other Information Minimum
Qualifications:
Completion of 10th grade.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities SKILLS required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include:
adhering to safety practices; monitoring activities; and supervision of students.
KNOWLEDGE is required of appropriate codes, policies, regulations and/or laws; age appropriate activities; positive reinforcement techniques; and stages of child development.
ABILITY is required to schedule activities; gather and/or collate data; and use basic, job-related equipment.
Flexibility is required to work with others; work with data utilizing defined and similar processes; and operate equipment using defined methods.
Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals.
Specific ability-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include:
good role model skills; positive student discipline using appropriate communication skills; cooperative and effective working relationships; maintaining confidentiality; ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions; and working as part of a team.
